Shan Fong was four years old the first time she saw a ghost. Her parents are anthropologists, and took their child's abilities in a stride. She went to a teraphist and learned how to separate the ghost's feelings from hers.
Shan studied the occult and parapsychology for years, and eventually enroled in a specialized accademy. That's were she met paranormal investigator Li Hwen Mirage. The couple soon became world-renowned investigators and co-stars of a popular reality show.
Hwen died fighting a monster summoned by ignorant cultists, drown in the sea. Shan had almost died too, but she was rescued in time. Finding herself unable to contact Hwen's spirit, she feel into a deep depression, and it was five years before Leo, their agent and friend, convinced her of going back to work.
She took on a wealthy client named Linton March to save her home from foreclosure. March wanted to hire Mirage to remove a spell binding him to an otherwordly servant, known only as the Prisioner. Mirage agreed because the creature told her doing so would help her locate Hwen's spirit.
She projected her spirit into the Deadside, where she discovered that a spirit of the ocean domains called the Pale Mistress had imprisoned her husband, forcing him to play the piano for their entertainment. Shan bargained for Hwen's release in exchange of his Staff of Spirits, but in the meantime, several of Linton March's fellow occultists kidnapped her body to prevent her from breaking his binding spell that extended all their lives. And to make matters worse, a demon lord named Ivros was amassing an army for his conquest of the living realm. Shan and Hwen managed to defeat both threats and finally reunite in the real world.
They can communicate but not touch, which inspires them to search for a way to give Hwen a corporeal form. Their research led to the Vita Secunda scroll, bringing them into conflict with the spirit of a powerful occultist from the 1920s called Denis de Walt. Ultimately, Shan imprisoned de Walt back in the scroll.
Next was an encounter with the last priestess of Isis, the key to life and death in Ancient Egypt. Trying to harness the misteries of the goddess, Hwen and all the other ghosts dissappeared from Shan's sight. While the others returned after teaching her a lesson on mourning, Hwen's location remains unknown.
Shan worked with Shadowman and Punk Mambo to contain the soul-devouring powers of the Book of Shadows, which is now under custody of the Abettors. Punk Mambo has been teaching Shan about voodoo.
