REAL NAME: RAY GARRISON (PRESUMED)
ALIASES: Bloodshot
ABILITIES: Billions of microscopic machines called nanites infused in Ray’s blood give him enhanced speed, endurance, and strength, healing factor, and the ability to alter his physical appearance temporarily.
KNOWN ASSOCIATIONS: Magic and Jessie Garrison; Bloodhound; Bloodshot Squad; G.A.T.E., Eidolon.
Government contractor Project Rising Spirit has been experimenting in nanotech since WWII; the dog known as Bloodhound is the last survivor of their first test on living subjects. Human subjects that survived the infusion process came to be known as Bloodshot, P.R.S.’ lead black op agents.
Ray Garrison (the latest Bloodshot) was brainwashed for years, his memories replaced every time he returned from a mission allegedly to prevent him from revealing sensitive information if captured. In truth, this made him easier to manipulate.
One such mission tasked with capturing Mina Nez, a young orphan refugee with the psiot ability to manipulate genetics. Mina grew up under the strings of a cult called the Sons of the Last Flesh, who harnessed her powers to enhance themselves. Sold off to the shady paramilitary group called the Black Bar, she took on the name Eidolon.
Eventually, Ray broke free of his programming and set out on his own mission to atone for his actions while under P.R.S.’ control.
As part of the response team tasked with protecting the Geomancer Kay McHenry against the Immortal Enemy, Bloodshot failed and she died, but not before she used her power to drain all the nanites in his bloodstream.
Now fully human, Ray removed himself from any and all fights — until he rescued Magic from her abusive boyfriend infected with a nanite-virus. When P.R.S. released the virus in NYC, Ray discovered he was the only one among the Bloodshot Squad capable of absorbing the nanites with little to no consequence — except for becoming Bloodshot once again.
Ray and Magic had a daughter, Jessie, who inherited her father’s nanite-infused bloodstream. After exposure to Deadside energy, Jessie rapidly grew into a teenager.
Ray’s family lives on the run, though G.A.T.E. — the Global Agency for Threat Excision — has procured safe locations for them on many occasions.
Ray is a soldier through and through, and very good at following orders — but his primary objective has shifted to making sure his family is safe. He enjoys the simple things in life, such as playing video games with Jessie and eating Magic’s perfect jambalaya.

OTHER DETAILS: Bloodsquirt is a trauma-induced manifestation of Ray's thoughts, while Bloodpuss is the cat-like avatar Jessie made for her nanites.
