Mary-Maria was raised as one of the adoptive daughters of Congresswoman and Reverend Archer, founders of the Dominion. The Dominion is one of several societies tied to the Sect, an ancient organization dedicated to obtaining an artifact known as the Boon that they believe holds the key to immortality.
The Sect's greatest enemy is known as Armstrong, born Aram Anni-Padda. The Archers upbringing prepared her to assassinate him.
She has many adoptive siblings, most notably Obadiah Archer, who teamed up with Armstrong against the Sect.
She was briefly exposed to the Boon energy when the Archers activated the device, killing a Geomancer and themselves.
For a while, she was the leader of the Sisters of Perpetual Darkness, a secret religious order of assassin nuns with ties to the Sect. She was seemingly killed by Sister Lee Harvey, but Obadiah took her to the Faraway to heal.
OTHER DETAILS: Both Mary-Maria and Obadiah have been possessed by the Last Enemy, a sentient equation capable of reprograming host bodies.
